Zenescope’s Grimm Fairy Tales

A new comic book company has stolen my heart. Though I do still love DC and will still be blogging and reading GCS, Power Girl and Titans I have given a lot of my time over to Zenescope’s Grimm Fairy Tales, especially their stories revolving around Alice in Wonderland.

A few weeks ago I picked up Return to Wonderland the complete collection and fell in love with the world and it’s new characters. I am hoping to pick up Beyond Wonderland next and wait for Escape from Wonderland to finish up so I can grab the complete collection of it as well.

In Return to Wonderland Alice has a portion of herself stuck in Wonderland. This self is named Lacie and can never leave Wonderland. Alice’s daughter Calie (Notice all the anagrams of Alice in the names) is mentally damaged when her mother tries to kill herself and so is her younger brother. Calie falls through the looking glass to Wonderland and has her adventure. At the end of the comic Calie is faced with the true legend of Wonderland and has to face a tough decision that will come back to haunt her in the next installment.

Oh, I’m even getting myself psyched up to read more. Anyways, this comic inspired the Queen of Hearts Suit for my final project at school and I’m sure that the pictures of the cards will be posted on Facebook as well as this site.

Be careful and don’t fall through any looking glass!

A Childhood Obsession!

Fairy Tales, other worlds, mystical adventures and stories used to captivate me. None captured me like the unforgettable story of Alice in Wonderland. I have tried to pay attention and be informed about all of her reflections but she has so very many that I am happy to know the ones I do. I did watch the Tim Burton movie that was released this year and was pleased with the result but I was completely enthralled with the Syfy series of Alice. I watched most of it while it aired on my unreliable cable and have recently re-watched the entire series on Ninja video and truly love it. Not only does it have Tim Curry but Alice knows Judo, the Mad Hatter is her savior and companion for most of the show and the White Knight is the best comic relief and absent minded character I have seen in a long time.

If you have not seen this wonderful show I highly suggest you do. Another trend I have enjoyed is Claire’s jewelry and accessories coming out with many Alice in Wonderland related items such as a Drink me Bottle necklace and a tea party necklace as well as my favourite hats, fedoras. With this Alice assault when I was given my final project to make a deck of card in any style I wanted of course I had to do Alice in Wonderland, but which version to pick?

Well, each suit had a different reflection of Alice. Spades were done in an anime style with chess pieces featuring the White Queen from the new Tim Burton movie. I did the Clubs in the traditional Disney style with the tea party making the theme with pastel colours and teapots. I made the Hearts for the Queen of Hearts with painted roses and all in my new favourite comic books style, which I will touch on later. Finally I did the Diamonds original illustration style and feature the Walrus and Carpenter and had the oysters on the number cards. I have all of the cards on Facebook and hope that many are able to view them and I will post a few on this site.

Once all the suits were done I designed the back of the cards and two Joker cards with American McGee’s Cheshire Cat from the video game and kitten style. Now that I have created these cards I am printing them off to help decorate my Alice in Wonderland themed party in my new apartment. And until next time; create fanciful stories through your own looking glass!

A New Chapter

A new chapter, a grown up Geekette to record a deck of new experiences and an obsession that has followed me from childhood. I have many things to discuss. The first and most important is that I am moving on Saturday and between packing, planning, school and projects I have been unable to read let a lone blog so I am hoping to rectify that this summer.

My boyfriend and I are moving into our first apartment on May 1st (Beltane) and have the weekend to get everything sorted out and unpacked before I head back to work. We are moving my rats (Rogue and Patches), my fist (Quinn), my cat (16 year old Gemini) and my brand new baby bunny Kara Starr Bunnykins. I can not wait to get them all settled in and start my animalistic family with my boyfriend, which he doesn’t mind since it means I don’t want any children with this many animals!

School is over. I finished on Friday when I handed in my final project (Reflections of Alice in Wonderland) and started my new job at the school. I am working as the Awards Assistant and will be working full time during the summer to try and create a strong reference when I leave school in two years. I am also working at Baskin Robbins with terribly fattening ice cream that is no longer my friend. (Oh , who am I kidding, I love the Ice Cream!)

I do realize it has been another long hiatus since I blogged last and I know that when school is back in September I will have a few more. With this realization I have decided to blog at least once every two weeks this summer to make up for it or to at least edit and update my site. I don’t think it’ll be a terrible hassle as I have started a new comic book series and am more focused on my Wicca studies and novels then ever before. As much as I want to be an event planner I would die to be able to write and tell stories for a living.

Now for today I believe I am off to pack some more and try to teach my little Kara some new tricks. Experience life through your own looking glass and create stories to last lifetimes and until next time blesses be.
